Yesterday it felt like I had a little worm inside of me, munching, munching, munching.... AND I was so busy at work, I had almost no time to eat;-(

The meals for the day:

  • Breakfast: milo cereal with skim milk
  • Morning snack: Banana
  • Lunch: Banana (no time to eat)
  • Afternoon snack: None
  • Supper: Chicken thigh with salad, spinach. 4 small chicken pies
  • Evening snack: Small chocolate

I didn't feel pleased with my eating at all - starving myself during the day just to overeat and feel very uncomfortable at night is not my idea of how this should be done at all!!!

Review of August 2009 goals

At the beginning of August 2009 I set the following goals for myself:

  • Exercise at least 20 minutes 2 times per week - DONE

  • Must have at least 6 glasses of water each day - DONE

  • Must have 2 cups of coffee & 2 cups of tea per day - DONE

  • Must have 2 fruits per day - DONE

  • Must have at least 3 veggies per day - DONE

  • For August 2009 I would really love to get down to 190 pounds - OUTSTANDING!

I'm so close to 190 at 190,5 pounds, but just not there! I wonder what my goal for September should be?

I weighed in this morning at 190,5 pounds - slightly down from last week's 190,74 pounds, but I will take any loss!

Let's review this past week:

  • 8 Glasses of water each day - DONE
  • 2 Fruits per day - DONE
  • 3 Veggies per day - DONE
  • 3 Exercise sessions of 20 minutes each - DONE
  • Stay under 1,700 calories per day - almost, but went over on friday and saturday

All-in-all, I am happy with my progress. I got a bit lazy at the end of the week, which is something I should focus on since I am pretty sure I would have lost maybe 0,5 pounds more if only I had stayed under 1,700 calories for the whole week.

I am keeping my weekly/daily goals the same until I can manage to stay under 1,700 calories for the WHOLE week!

Eating for the day:

  • Breakfast: roll with tomato, cheese and chicken
  • Morning snack: None
  • Lunch: roll with tomato, cheese and chicken
  • Afternoon snack: None
  • Supper: 2 pieces of chicken, salad and avo
  • Evening snack: chocolate and a small packet of potato chips

I did the 45 minute Cardio Party of Jillian Michaels again. I was so tired half-way through, but the music kind of made me going. It felt great to finish it!!!!

Saturday, August 29, 2009

I slept late today, I needed a bit more rest.

After taking dd to her weekly swimming lesson, we did a bit of shopping before heading back home.

I felt like simple food today:

  • Breakfast: apple, pineapple with low fat fruit yogurt, sprinkled with oat bran and cinnamon

  • Morning snack: low fat chocolate milk

  • Lunch: Wasn't hungry

  • Afternoon snack: None

  • Supper: Portuguese roll with chicken, tomato and cheese - YUMMIE;-)

  • Evening snack: Small chocolate

I didn't do a workout today, but I did all the laundry, cleaned the whole house, etc.

Daily tracking - 28 August 2009

I got up on time today - definitely learnt my lesson from yesterday!

Dd is much better and even I am feeling more like myself again. About time too, apart from my nice walk on monday I have done no exercise this week.

Eating went well until after supper when I suddenly had a period pains and just HAD to eat a magnum to ease the pains;-(

Meals for the day:

  • Breakfast: Bran flakes with skim milk

  • Morning snack: samoosa and a spring roll (regretted eating it immediately - was so oily)

  • Lunch: Banana

  • Afternoon snack: None

  • Supper: 2 pieces of chicken with corn and carrots
  • Evening snack: Magnum

My goodness, I didn't have any mini magnums available and only afterwards read the nutritional info - so many calories!!!!

I was a bit lazy to exercise, but after I realised how high the calories of the Magnum was I did the 20 minute Turbo Jam workout.

I definitely felt a bit better afterwards.

A confession

I hardly ever read my e-mail and on tuesday I checked it for the first time in maybe a month just to find soooo many e-mails from my blog readers! I was very happy about the e-mails, but apparently there seems to be a problem with commenting on my blog:-( I will see what I can do about it and if I can sort it out asap!

Just want to say thanks for letting me know about the commenting problem and also thanks for those of you reading my daily ramblings - appreciate it;-

This morning I overslept badly. By the time I woke up, there was barely time to get dressed myself and dd. I had to grab whatever was available to eat, so eating during the day was too little leaving me feeling famished by the time I finally got home.

  • Breakfast: Banana
  • Morning snack: Banana
  • Lunch: Wholewheat crackers
  • Afternoon snack: can of coke
  • Supper: 2 pieces of chicken with baby corn and green beans. My neighbour gave me some Indian food - pieces of spinach wrapped in a small pastry-case (YUMMIE)
  • Evening snack: Small chocolate

I had to take dd for physio for her lungs again so we got home very late - no time for exercise. I don't know if I would have done any even if we were home early - my voice was missing today:-(

I normally weigh daily, but haven't weighed since monday. This makes me a bit nervous - I feel out of control since I have no idea what my weight is and if it has gone up since Monday. Auntie flo also came, so I expect my weight to be up.

Daily tracking - 26 August 2009

Eating went reasonably well today:

  • Breakfast: roll with avo

  • Morning snack: banana

  • Lunch: Chicken thigh with salad

  • Afternoon snack: None

  • Supper: Chicken burger

  • Evening snack: Small chocolate

No exercise - my nose was blocked and my throat on fire;-(

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

I am so happy I feel like dancing around!!! I am finally under 192 pounds!!!!

Today I weighed in at 190.75 pounds! Not too shabby, eh?

And now I can get the 15 pounds lost award from the Healthy You Challenge!

I am extremely happy with my weightloss this week! If I have to look back at the past week I think two factors played a roll in my loss:

  • More exercise
  • Smaller portions - calorie control

And the best is that I have still enjoyed a small chocolate in the evenings!

Dd is still not better. I had to take her to the doc straight after work. Seems she has developed resistance to the anti-biotics she had been given on Friday. I have the flu as wel.

Eating went reasonably well;

  • Breakfast: Bran flakes with skim milk
  • Morning snack: banana
  • Lunch: Left-over cheese and polony roll
  • Afternoon snack: None
  • Supper: Last of the cheese and polony roll
  • Evening snack: Chocolate

I took a long, but fast walk today. It was nice and warm outside and it really helped my nose clear up a little.

Monday, August 24, 2009

Daily tracking - 23 August 2009

Had a horrible day. Dd is really sick and had a fever pretty much the whole day.

Eating was not too bad:

  • Breakfast: Bran flakes with skim milk
  • Morning snack: Medium banana
  • Lunch: Chicken with veggies
  • Afternoon snack: samoosas
  • Supper: Polony/cheese roll with salad
  • Evening snack: chocolate

No exercise for the day.

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Daily tracking - 22 August 2009

Today I didnt do too badly...

  • Breakfast: Oats with skim milk

  • Morning snack: Banana

  • Lunch: chicken piece and steamed veggies

  • Afternoon snack: Samoosas

  • Evening snack: Chocolate

I cleaned the house, did the laundry AND had a lovely 20-minute Turbo Jam workout!

Felt great!

Daily tracking - 21 August 2009

Since I didn't cook yesterday this morning was such a confusing mess. No left-overs to take to lunch, dd not feeling well. One of THOSE mornings, we all have them from time to time.

My meals:

  • Breakfast: 2 slices of low GI bread with 1/4 avo

  • Morning snack: None, was in a meeting

  • Lunch: 2 slices low GI bread with chicken and an extra piece of chicken

  • Afternoon snack: banana with peanut butter

  • Supper: Roast chicken with 1/4 avo

I had to buy a roast chicken from the shops since I had to take dd to the doctor after work and we got home very late. She has an ear infection and as I am updating this blog she is talking in her sleep because of her high fever. Looks like we will be having a quiet weekend at home.

No workout today.

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Today was a hectic day. I had the day off to run quite a few errands. I was up and down the whole day - it was so exhausting. The highlight of my day was when I treated myself to a movie;-)

Meals were not what they should have been at all:

  • Breakfast: 2 slices low GI bread with cheese
  • Morning snack: low fat chocolate milk
  • Lunch: Popcorn and packet of M&Ms
  • Supper: McDonalds burger and chips
  • Evening snack: Some cheese curls

Really horrible eating:-(

No exercise, but I walked a lot.

Tomorrow will be better!

Meals for the day:

  • Breakfast: milo cereal
  • Morning snack: small orange
  • Lunch: Chicken curry with potatoes and carrot & pineapple
  • Afternoon snack: small orange
  • Supper: Toasted sandwich with chicken, tomato and mozarella cheese. Baked fries on the side.
  • Evening snack: mini chocolate

And then I surprised myself again - I did another workout! 2 Nights in a row, not something that happens often. I did the Bikini Body workout by Gabrielle Reece. I actually enjoyed it. I tried to do 3 sets of 15 repetitions each like she said, but some of them like the dips took a lot out of me. BUT I felt so great afterwards that I will definitely do this workout again!

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

My mother used to make this salad for us when I was still living there. The other day I had no veggies at home except carrot and pineapple and thought I'd give it a try.
It is so easy and simply and surprisingly sweet...
Grate some carrots
Add some crushed pineapple
Add raisins
Mix
Voila!

Daily tracking - 18 August 2009

I made sure that I prepared my meals for the whole day the night before. Not only does it saves me time in the mornings, but I can also ensure that what I am eating is healthy.

Here goes my meals for the day:

  • Breakfast: Cheerios with milk

  • Morning snack: orange

  • Lunch: Tuna with cauliflower and carrot and pineapple salad (yummie)

  • Afternoon snack: Orange

  • Supper: Chicken curry with cauliflower, carrot & pineapple salad and 2 slices low Gi bread.

  • Evening snack: Small chocolate (35 grams)

Calorie total: 1,700 (actually 1,667)

Carbs/Protein/fat split: 51/22/28

I surprised myself today. I knew I wanted to do some exercise, but instead of taking the 20-minute workout from Turbo Jam, I did the cardio party of 45 minutes. I must admit though that when I got to 15 minutes I didn't think I could finish it, but it was so much fun that I didn't want to stop!!!!

Adjusted goals

I want to adjust my daily/weekly checklist for weightloss a little since I had no problem meeting them the past two weeks.

Here are the new list:

  • 2 Fruits per day (same)
  • 3 Veggies per day (same)
  • 8 Glasses of water day (up from 6)
  • 3 Exercise sessions of at least 20 minutes each per week (up from 2 per week)
  • Staying under 1,700 calories per day (new)

I decided to add the calorie target since I have been tracking what I have been eating for the past two weeks. I am now in the swing of things, I just have to "fine-tune" it;-)

Monday, August 17, 2009

Disappointingly, I am up to 192.72 pounds. My goal was to be under 192.

I weigh daily but only record my weekly weigh-in... my weight fluctuated a lot during the past week...

Monday: 192.5 pounds

Tuesday: 193.16 pounds

Wednesday: 194.26 pounds

Thursday: 193.16 pounds

Friday: 191.84 pounds

Saturday: 193.6 pounds

Sunday: 193.16 pounds

Monday: 194.04 pounds

Today: 192.72 pounds.

So, I am up this week - what went wrong? Let's see, my goals for the month of August are:

  • Must have at least 6 glasses of water each day - DONE
  • Must have 2 fruits per day - DONE
  • Must have at least 3 veggies per day - DONE
  • Must do exercise at least 2 times for at least 20 minutes per time - DONE

So, I didn't do too badly as far as my goals were concerned.

If I look at my calorie intake for the past week, I do notice an alarming trend - my calorie consumption increased from an average of 1,550 per week to 1,800 per week. NOT GOOD!

This is then probably the culprit and the over-eating over the weekend was the main reason for this increase. I will have to be more careful on weekends with what I am eating and not lose control again.

Next week I MUST be under 192!!!!

(For those who are wondering - my scale measures in kgs, I have to multiply by 2.2 to get to pounds. I find pounds just easier - and more motivating - to use)

I had a good eating day:

  • Breakfast: roll with avo and an orange
  • Morning snack: small orange
  • Lunch: roll with cheese
  • Afternoon snack: orange
  • Supper: 2 pieces of chicken with veggie stir-fry and banana salad
  • Evening snack: hot milk with 4 small biscuits

I didn't do any exercise, but cleaned the house!

I am happy with today!

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Today was such a lazy day. I had planned to go watch a movie, but just never got around to it.

Here is what I ate:

  • Breakfast: slices of low GI toast with jam
  • Morning snack: None
  • Lunch: chicken burger and fries
  • Afternoon snack: None
  • Supper: 2 pieces of fried chicken with green salad and banana salad
  • Evening snack: glass of milk and avo

When I logged all of this it came to over 2,000 calories!!! There goes my weightloss for this week, I am sure!!! Why is it so difficult to diet over weekends???

I did do a workout today - 20 minute Turbo Jam workout. I adore my turbo jam 20 minute workout, but I am considering getting Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred.

Non-scale victory!

Today I got an unexpected surprise! I went to visit my brother in a nearby city. I haven't seen him for a few months, but the moment I got out of the car he told me that I had lost weight!!!! YAY!!!

That really made my day!

I haven't lost that many pounds since I last saw him, but I have definitely lost quite a few inches here and there.... I'm so glad someone noticed that I lost weight.

Saturday, August 15, 2009

Daily tracking - 15 August 2009

Today dd and I decided to take a trip to visit my brother in a nearby city. We had such a fun day!

I ate:

  • Breakfast: 2 slices of low GI toast with jam

  • Morning snack: Small sausage roll

  • Lunch: steak with cheese and mushroom sauce with fries

  • Afternoon snack: None

  • Supper: None
  • Evening snack: chocolate

I don't thin calorie-wise things went too badly, but I definitely consumed way too much sodium.

No exercise, but lots of walking.

Friday, August 14, 2009

Daily tracking - 14 August 2009

Today was a strange day as far as food was concerned.

I had a dentist appointment over lunch and had to pick dd up from a friend's b'day party after work, so my whole routine got disrupted.

I ate:

  • Breakfast: 2 slices of low GI bread with Avo
  • Morning snack: Nothing
  • Early lunch: 2 slices of low GI bread with peanut butter and jam
  • Afternoon snack: orange
  • Supper: Indian rice dish, which a friend provided. Since I got home so late, it was very welcome as I didn't have to cook;-)
  • Evening snack: Small chocolate

No exercise;-(

Thursday, August 13, 2009

I didn't have a good night's sleep last night. Dd was up most of the night with a horrible cough.

BUT the show must go on.....

Here is what I ate today:

  • Breakfast: 2 slices low GI bread with avo

  • Morning snack: Banana with peanut butter

  • Lunch: Cup of mutton curry

  • Afternoon snack: banana with peanut butter

  • Supper: Steak stir-fry with mushrooms and zucchini and a small portions of fries

  • Evening snack: Peanut butter flavoured corn chips

The calorie-intake came to 1,900 due to the fries mostly. The carbs/protein/fat split: 35/20/45

I didn't do any exercise, but did clean the house.

Overall, I was happy with my day's eating. I know I didn't eat too much and it feels good;-)

Before and hopefully, after....

The other day, the fat chick over at Fat Chick's Journey did a before and after virtual model of herself and I thought it would be a good idea to do it too. I used My Virtual Model.

My before at 193 pounds:

My after at my ultimate goal weight of 132 pounds:

Daily tracking - 12 August 2009

I felt pretty good when I woke up this morning. I felt proud of my eating yesterday.

Today's food:

  • Breakfast: 2 slices low GI bread with peanut butter
  • Morning snack: banana with peanut butter
  • Lunch: Chicken breast with green salad and an orange
  • Afternoon snack: wholewheat crackers
  • Supper: Mutton curry with carrots and potatoes with 2 slices of low GI bread and half avo
  • Evening snack: Nothing

I was a bit disappointed when I logged it all and the total calorie count came to 2,000. The carbs/protein/fat split was also not good: 49//16/35.

I didn't do any exercise today as I got home very late.

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Daily tracking - 11 August 2009

Today I woke up with the intention to make this week THE week that I WILL get to under 192 pounds!

  • Morning snack: Apple

  • Lunch: chicken breast with green salad

  • Evening snack: packet of peanut butter flavoured corn chips (24 grams)and a small chocolate (32 grams)

I didn't go to the gym today since they are closed for renovations, BUT I did a 20 minute Turbo Jam workout! I LOVED IT!!!!

All-in-all I think I did really well today!

Monday, August 10, 2009

I started the Healthy You Challenge at 192,5 pounds and I am now exactly the same. I maintained. I guess it is a relief since I'm not up, but I would have loved to have been below 192 pounds.

Well, it is the start of another week. Let's see if I can't do better!

Today was a public holiday, so I took dd out. We first went to the games, then did a bit of shopping and eventually had lunch at a restaurant. I tried to stuck to healthy choices, I don't think I did too badly considering what was available on the menu.

Food for the day:

  • Breakfast: 2 slices of low GI toast with jam
  • Lunch: Burger and fries - the smallest on the menu
  • Supper: chicken breast with green salad and banana salad

I cleaned the house again today, but had no other exercise apart from walking a lot.

Sunday, August 9, 2009

Daily tracking - 9 August 2009

  • Breakfast: 2 slices low GI toast bread
  • Morning snack: low fat chocolate milk
  • Lunch: Cauliflower
  • Afternoon snack: 20 gram chocolate

I worked hard today. No exercise, but I cleaned the whole house, did the laundry, washed the net curtains, etc, etc. I was exhausted by the end of the day.

Friday, August 7, 2009

Daily tracking - 7 August 2009

I had the day off, so I took dd to the movies to see the new Harry Potter movie.

Meals were not that good.

  • Morning snack: chocolate
  • Lunch: popcorn

No exercise, but I did clean the house.

Thursday, August 6, 2009

Difficult day

Today I learned a difficult lesson. Instead of having my normal oats for breakfast I had milo cereal. The milo cereal is definitely very tasty, but I was hungry not even an hour afterwards.

As a result, I had my morning snack early and then my lunch almost an hour earlier than usual. As I am sitting here typing this, I am already feeling the hungry pangs;-(

When I added my food for the day to fitday I noticed that the 1 serving of the milo is almost half the calories of the oats. I wonder if doubling the milo cereal's serving size would help me stay fuller for longer.

I hope this day will end better than it started!

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

Laura over at Heavenly Homemakers is having a challenge to eat more fruit and veggies!
Since I have started eating more in any case, I thought I'd join.

Anyone else like to join?

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

Daily tracking - 5 August 2009

I had a reasonably good day as far as eating was concerned.

I had:

  • Breakfast: Oats
  • Morning snack: Apple
  • Lunch: 2 slices low GI bread with cheese, tomato and cold meat
  • Afternoon snack: Apple
  • Supper: 2 fried eggs (no fat) and fries (got home late, had to make something quick and easy)
  • Evening snack: 2 small chocolates

My calorie intake for the day came to 1,700 calories. My carbs/protein/fat split was 42/17/41. I really need to up my protein intake and bring down my fats! I didn't have my 5 fruit and veggies for the day either!

My whole body was hurting from the weight workout last night, but it felt good. I didn't do any exercise today, I was exhausted. I wonder if one should keep on exercising even though you are exhausted or to rest until you have your energy back?

Daily tracking - 4 August 2009

After yesterday's "good" day I weighed myself again this morning. What a disappointment to see I am up to 193 pounds;-( I think I should stick to weighing once a week.

What I ate today:

  • Breakfast: 2 Slices of low GI bread with cheese, tomato and sliced cold meat

  • Morning snack: Apple

  • Lunch: Tuna salad

  • Afternoon snack: Apple

  • Supper: Chicken breast with mixed veg, mushrooms and green pepper
  • Evening snack: small chocolate and 2 biscuits

According to Fitday, I consumed 1,600 calories with a carb/protein/fat split of 28/33/39.

I cleaned the whole house, still had energy left and decided to start a beginnger's programme I downloaded from the net. It was mostly with dumbells and the stability ball, but my arms felt like jelly when I was done. It was a really nice workout - I will do it again!

Monday, August 3, 2009

Daily tracking - 3 August 2009

So, today was a brand new start for me and my intention to eat and live healthy.

I weighed in this morning just to have a base to start from - up to 192.5 pounds.

Here is what I ate today:

  • Breakfast: Bran cereal with milk

  • Morning snack: Apple

  • Lunch: Tuna salad (tuna with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, green pepper and low-fat salad dressing)

  • Afternoon snack: Apple

  • Supper: Sausage and mixed veggies with salad and a slice of bread.

  • Evening snack: Low fat hot chocolate

According to my food journal, I consumed about 1,843 calories, which is much higher than I thought it would be. Split between carbs/protein/fat - 39/25/37. Fat content much too high!

I even got to the gym today for a lovely cardio workout! I did 20 minutes on the stationary cycle and burned about 120 calories using the High Intensity Interval Training recommended by Bil Philips in his Body for Life workouts. I was exhausted when I was done, but boy! I felt great! I must also add that listening to some nice energetic music really got me going.

After my workout I felt like snacking. My normal habit would have been to buy a chocolate milk (could've been worse), but lucky for me the cafeteria at work has closed down indefinitely;-) So, I survived without it.

As far as my goals are concerned - I stuck to them all!!!

I'm happy with today!

Daily tracking - 2 August 2009

Today was a horrible day as far as eating was concerned.

We celebrated a family member's b'day and went out for lunch. After that things just got worse:-(

BUT tomorrow is a new week. I bought myself a fitness magazine for inspiration and I am confident it will get me going in the gym again.

Saturday, August 1, 2009

August 2009 goals

Since today is the first of August, I decided to set some goals for the month ahead.

My daily/weekly goals will remain in place:

  • Exercise at least 20 minutes 2 times per week
  • Must have at least 6 glasses of water each day
  • Must have 2 cups of coffee & 2 cups of tea per day
  • Must have 2 fruits per day
  • Must have at least 3 veggies per day

For August 2009 I would really love to get down to 190 pounds. I weighed in for the end of July 2009 at 191,75 so a goal of 190 is not too far-fetched. It would basically mean losing slightly less than 0,5 pounds per week over the next 4 weeks.

No tracking for the past week

Monday evening I went to the doctor. I was feeling a bit better, but went because it had been 4 days with no real improvement in my symptoms. I was diagnosed with upper respiratory tract infection.

Good thing too! Tuesday morning when I woke up, I felt really really sick. Everything burned - my nose, my chest, my throat.

I ate when I needed. I didn't really follow any specific diet or eating plan, I just tried to stick to moderation.

It is now saturday evening, I still have flu symptoms, but I am really hopeful to be much better by tomorrow. Resting definitely helps.

;;
